Meadowcroft Shoreham Limited is part of SDR Group – a privately owned housing and social care provider based in Sussex. We have a strong ethical approach to how we deliver our services. Vanessa is supported by a dedicated team of staff, including our care team, on site cooks and cleaners who all work together to deliver the highest levels of care for our residents. Our approach is one of collaboration to support each other, residents and families as we provide care, companionship and support to residents. People were supported by an effective service that ensured staff had the skills and knowledge to meet people's needs.
Staff were motivated to improve the quality of care and benefitted from regular supervision, team meetings and training to help them meet the needs of the people they were caring for. They inspect care services to ensure they are supporting peoples wellbeing; appropriately setup; properly planning out care; are well led; and effectively staffed, each criteria is given a grade out of 6. Meadowcroft offers compassionate, individualised residential, dementia and nursing care for up to 71 residents in a modern, comfortable environment. Opened in 2011, Meadowcroft is situated in a quiet, residential location on Queens Road, about a mile from Thame town centre. The home offers compassionate, high-quality residential, dementia and nursing care for up to 71 residents in homely and comfortable surroundings.
Services & Facilities
We think it’s important you have detailed, comprehensive information so that you can decide which care providers to shortlist. – the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service. Staff were knowledgable about the needs of people who used the service. We were told that training, communication and support was good. People were effectively cared for because staff followed well developed and reviewed care plans. Staff understood their responsibilities under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards ; these provide legal safeguards for people who may be unable to make their own decisions.
Being located close to the town centre, there are shops, cafes, restaurants, and Shoreham Train Station all within a few minute’s walk. Shoreham Beach is a little further over the river and we are really lucky to be located in the heart of the local community. All floors are accessed by a lift or stairlifts, giving residents freedom of movement throughout our home.
Hempton Field Care Home
We observed care and treatment and looked at eight care records. We also carried out a short observation framework for inspection . A SOFI is used to capture the experiences of people who use the service who may not be able to express this for themselves.
One person told us "this is a nice place to live. I have nothing to complain about. I get on well with all the staff. The home is well run and I can do whatever I want to do". All nursing, care workers and support staff had received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults from abuse including mental capacity training and deprivation of liberty safeguards. This was documented in training records and included regular updates.
Jess is Meadowcroft’s Admin Assistant and will be the first to offer a very warm welcome to all visitors. She joined Meadowcroft in 2014 with a background in business administration and holds a level 2 NVQ in this subject. Moving into the care sector was a change from her previous roles and she says she wouldn’t change it for the world.
We have therefore encouraged every provider to open their ‘online windows and doors’ to help you make an informed choice. The profile score is a measure of how much information has been provided. If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service. – the service is performing well and meeting our expectations. The programme of events and activities provide a source of fun and laughter, to help each resident live their life to the full and make new friendships. – there are some services which we can’t rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon. People told us that they were liked living at Meadowcroft and that the food was good and a wide range of activities was offered. People told us "they couldn't find any faults with the home", "routines are relaxed and flexible " and " the home takes some beating". We were also told that staff were very attentive and that nothing was too much trouble.
We looked at a sample of accidents, complaints, care plans and medication. If action had been needed then a short time scale is given to the manager to address the deficit . People received a well-balanced diet and were involved in choosing what they ate.
The home, located close to the centre of Thame in Oxfordshire, is operated by The Orders of St John Care Trust . OSJCT is a leading not for profit charity which provides care for older people in over 70 care homes and extra care schemes. Hobbies don’t simply stop when living with us at Meadowcroft. We have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who works closely with our residents to create a programme of fulfilling activities and events, tailored around each resident’s requests, hobbies and interests.

Helen has several years’ experience working in the care sector and has been Head Housekeeper at Meadowcroft since 2011. He enjoys getting to know all about the residents’ lives, their likes and dislikes, what makes a difference to them and what helps to put a smile on their face. This passion and drive was recognised on two different occasions when Scott was awarded ‘Young Carer of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ at OSJCT’s Oxfordshire Employee Awards.
